“I reached out to International Career Studies upon winning a grant from Occidental College to do research for my senior thesis. ICS facilitated the process by finding professors who could guide me to subjects for interviews. Having an internship with CubaPlus Magazine was truly inspirational. It allowed me to capture the rich history and culture of the city and a few locations that I traveled to on my own.The accommodations were convenient and ICS was always very willing to make sure I was comfortable.”

Taxis (and Maquinas) were very easy to take around and a great way to improve conversational Spanish.

All Cubans were eager to learn all about where their customers are from.

Any view from a high window brightens up the blue sky and reminds you how vibrant life in Havana always is.

Sometimes it felt like you stepped out of a 1950's clip about daily life in Cuba.

The atmosphere makes the experience so surreal.

Everywhere you travel, there is always someone willing to help you out whether it be with something small like directions or a ride from Soroa to Havana. This family offered us a ride back after my grandfather and I explored the Cascada de Soroa.

There are constant reminders of the eloquent writers and philosophers that shaped Cuba's revolutionary thought and helped bring strong foundations that brought people from all over the island together.

Finally, I would like to dedicate this photo and this spread to my grandfather, Gevorg Kalajyan (1941 - 2015), who was an amazing traveling companion. I don't think I could have gone with anyone who has a younger or more adventurous soul, so thank you for that.You will be missed.
